Artist Statement
In my art practice, I utilize traditional and digital photographic and print processes. I envision my work as alternative hybrid landscapes that are inspired by, and move fluidly between, built/natural environments and cyberspace. These tangible and intangible spaces are visually filtered and manipulated through digital glitches and ink anomalies. I am inspired by environments and landscapes that have had a significant impact on my perspective, positionality and perception.
My current research explores direct and indirect experiences of trauma immediately connected to landscape. I define landscape as a place which can encompass both the tangible and intangible, and which crosses fluidity between the natural and supernatural worlds. I use a combination of screenprinting, poly-plate printing, monoprinting and digital printing techniques in my practice. Lately, I have been experimenting with installation and projection work. In my research, I am seeking answers to the following questions: In what ways does landscape affect the mind, the body and the soul? Can a landscape “haunt” you? How do landscapes capture, generate, hold and distribute trauma? How do we engage with landscape through our senses? Do landscapes possess energy?
